The Nursery

Oak Tree Nursery was established some twenty years ago from a fresh site on a corn field. Our aim was to operate a small traditional nursery selling herbaceous plants that we selected for their merits and raising all our stock to ensure quality and hardiness.

Like Topsy these things grew and we became more interested in ornamental grasses (a small number of which we had always grown). This resulted in us moving completely over to the production of a range of grasses and grass-like plants although we still have a number of our herbaceous subjects.

We found that the best outlet was flower shows and so every year we travel the country attending the major independent shows and the RHS shows. Customers are still more than welcome to call at the nursery by arrangement. However they must have some idea as to what they require as we are not set out as a selling nursery.

All our plants are grown by ourselves from either seed or division, however we do buy in a number of plugs and liners which we grow on to keep pace with demand. The majority of plants are in 9cm or 11cm pots but grow away quickly from this size. We are in the process of moving over to peat-free compost, using coir and chipped bark which looks promising.
